GPS??

Bus company uses GPS to monitor its drivers so that safety of passengers not compromised

By STEPHEN THEN
stephenthen@thestar.com.my

MIRI: The Aidilfitri balik kampung rush has begun, and a bus company here is pulling out all the stops to ensure its passengers get home to their loved ones safe and sound.Miri Transport Company (MTC), which operates passenger and express bus services, has installed remote-sensing tracking devices on each and everyone of its buses plying the long distance routes.MTC express buses travel to Niah, Bintulu, Sibu, Sarikei, Sri Aman, Serian and Kuching, and the global positioning system (GPS) device fitted in the buses provides real-time reading of the speed of the buses.
This “eye in the sky” move can detect if any of its buses are speeding, overtaking dangerously or travelling recklessly no matter where they are in Sarawak.MTC general manager Yeo Yow Shun can monitor everyone of his bus driver’s actions from his laptop. If he detects any of them travelling at high speeds, he will call them up over the mobile phone.Yeo showed The Star how he monitors his buses and his drivers from his laptop and how he can zoom in on them even if they are already 1,000km or more away from him.“We are the only bus company in Sarawak to have fitted this GPS tracking device in every of our long-distance buses.“The speed of everyone of my buses are recorded nonstop and we have staff here who monitor the situation all the time, including myself,” he said here yesterday.“I can see my driver, live from the satellite images beamed into my laptop.“The speed limit of every buses is shown on these satellite images. If my driver is moving below the speed limit, there is a green colour flashing. If my driver starts to speed, the colour will change to yellow and I will start to call them up to find out what they are doing.“Any attempt to speed is immediately detected and my staff and I here at the headquarters can instantly react and check on the driver.
“My company has 28 intra-state buses that ferry passengers from Miri to every other towns and cities in Sarawak between the Miri-Kuching routes daily.“In Miri City, we have 13 buses operating throughout the district,” he said.Yeo said since his company made it compulsory for everyone of its long-distance buses to be fitted with the GPS tracking device two years ago, it has managed to improve safety and cut down accidents by a wide margin. He said that just yesterday, he detected from the satellite, one of his drivers travelling at the yellow speed.“I immediately called him up and scolded him and warned him to slow down.“On my desk in this office here in Miri, is a list of all the names of everyone of my bus drivers, the route they are travelling, the number of their buses, the time of their departure, the time of their expected arrival.“I have the mobile phone number of everyone of them. Once I detect that they are speeding, I will instantly call and scold them,” he said.Yeo said his company adhered to a very strict policy of safety in the interest of the bus passengers, and any bus drivers that defy the speed limit could face the sack.
In the meantime, Miri City is becoming a beehive of activities as the countdown begins to Aidilfitri.Sarawakian Muslims working in Brunei are making a beeline to re-enter the state via the Sungai Tujuh immigration checkpoint at the Miri-Kuala Belait border.Muslims working in Miri, whose hometowns are in other parts of Sarawak, are making a beeline to leave Miri. While all these are happening, the shopping centres, agriculture tamus, supermarkets and shops in the city are enjoying a surge in shoppers, especially in the number of Bruneians who have crossed the border here for their Aidilfitri shopping.Miri is a shopping, food and entertainment haven for Bruneians and for expatriates working in Brunei because of the high exchange rate of the Brunei dollar against the Malaysian ringgit. The Brunei dollar is equal to the Singapore dollar in terms of exchange value.

Bye-bye Web 2.0, and hello Web 3.0

Wikimedia
By OON YEOH

Mainstream media publications seeking to grab the numbers back from bloggers should leapfrog into the new quality-assured content platform.
WEB 2.0 is a phrase that gets bandied about quite a bit these days. If you ask three people what it means you’ll probably get three different answers.
That’s understandable, because there is no official definition.
Tim O’Reilly, the man who popularised the phrase in 2004, describes it as “the business revolution in the computer industry caused by the move to the Internet as a platform, and an attempt to understand the rules for success on that new platform”.
Kind of vague, but in the context of New Media it refers to the use of the Internet as a means of collaboration, where the audience becomes part of the content creation process.
Think of it this way: Web 1.0 is a one-way street, where the publisher puts up some content and the audience consumes it. Web 2.0 is a two-way street, where the publisher puts up some content and the audience is able to respond to it.
Blogs are one of the earliest and simplest expressions of the Web 2.0 trend as they allow readers to post comments.
Social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace and Friendster are all very Web 2.0 because they are designed to encourage interaction among users. Wikis are also a good example of Web 2.0 in action as the content is generated by multiple users.
Web 2.0 has certainly democratised the media. American journalist A.J. Liebling’s famous dictum, “Freedom of the press is guaranteed only to those who own one”, may have been true in his time (he died in 1963) and may have been true right up until the turn of the new century. But it’s certainly not true today. Not even in Malaysia.
Mainstream media might still be constrained by the Printing Presses and Publications Act but online media is not. Thanks to Web 2.0, anybody can be a publisher. The result is a blossoming of content.
Where once the Malaysian political blogosphere pretty much consisted of Jeff Ooi, there are now way too many political bloggers to keep track of. There's some really good stuff out there. There’s also a lot of rubbish. And that’s the chief drawback of the free-for-all nature of Web 2.0.
This point has been well articulated by Nicholas Carr, author of Does IT Matter and The Big Switch. As early as 2005, he was already questioning whether Web 2.0 – with its emphasis on participation, collectivism, virtual communities, and amateurism – is necessarily a good thing.
“I’m all for blogs and blogging,” says Carr. “But I’m not blind to the limitations and the flaws of the blogosphere – its superficiality, its emphasis on opinion over reporting, its echolalia, its tendency to reinforce rather than challenge ideological extremism and segregation.”
Carr acknowledges that mainstream media has its shortcomings, too.
“All the same criticisms can (and should) be hurled at segments of the mainstream media,” he says. “And yet, at its best, the mainstream media is able to do things that are different from – and, yes, more important than – what bloggers can do.”
He’s talking about things like funding in-depth reporting and underwriting projects that can take weeks or even months to reach fruition. It’s also able to hire professional editors and proofreaders.
“Forced to choose between reading blogs and subscribing to, say, theNew York Times, the Financial Times, the Atlantic, and the Economist, I will choose the latter. I will take the professionals over the amateurs,” he says.
As a heavy consumer of both blogs and mainstream media, I can’t say I totally agree with Carr.It really depends on the topics. For mobile research, I find that blogs written by industry experts are far superior to anything I can find in mainstream media. That’s because that topic is too niche for mainstream media. For politics, if I’m pressed for time, I’d take Malaysiakini and Malaysian Insider (neither of which are very Web 2.0-ish) over the multitude of political blogs out there. There are exceptions, of course. I make it a point to read Rocky’s Bru every day (but then again, that blog is maintained by a former newspaper editor).
A good middle ground might be achieved through Web 3.0 which, like its 2.0 cousin, does not have an official definition. In fact, its meaning is even fuzzier.
But recently, I came across an interesting description by Peter Whitehead, Digital Business Editor at the Financial Times. He describes it as such: Web 2.0 is a world in which anyone can have a go at generating content; Web 3.0 is where professionals take the lead in shaping that content.
In other words, professionals anchor the content generation process and amateurs participate.
FT Digital Business' new online Personal View series attempts to do this by asking professionals from across the IT sector to share their opinions on an array of topics.
Each subject will be examined for three weeks, and in the third week there will be space for extra contributions from readers and other professionals.
So, through its Digital Business section, FT is attempting to leap from the old world of Web 1.0, over the messy world of Web 2.0, into the “quality-assured” world of Web 3.0.
Perhaps this is what mainstream media publications in Malaysia should do. Instead of struggling to keep up with Web 2.0, they should just leapfrog to Web 3.0, which is more up their alley.
Oon Yeoh is already wondering what Web 4.0 will be about. You can reach him at www.oonyeoh.comI>

Transform role of HR to meet challenges of new economy

KUALA LUMPUR: Business leaders must keep pace with the rapidly changing world by transforming the role of human resource (HR) and boosting the human capital performance to be more relevant to the challenges of the new economy.International Centre for Leaderhip in Finance chief executive officer Rajeev Peshawaria said the world was flat and changing faster than ever before but the human resource specialists were still largely focused on competency models, compensation and benefits and formulaic leadership development.“Some of the above are still very important, but business leaders need to adapt to the challenges of the new economy where strategy gets outdated too quickly,” he said in his keynote address yesterday at the American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce HR Conference with the theme HR Transformation to Improve Business Competitiveness and Sustainability.Peshawaria said the key to success in making HR more relevant in this uncertain world was to keep it simple so that everyone could understand and accept the vision and strategy of the company.“The brave new HR is a dependable catalyst that understands the challenges of the flat new world.“HR becomes the eyes and ears of the chief executive officer in helping drive responsible and sustainable growth of the business,” he said.Another speaker, Mercer Malaysia human capital head Eustace Gomez, said HR transformation today focused on the use of technology to deliver best practice HR services to business partners efficiently and consistently at lower costs so as to achieve the best business results.
“The objectives of HR transformation include being able to proactively respond to a business environment that is dynamic and constantly evolving,” he said.“HR needs to have a global mindset and not a ‘home’ mentality.”

After I Had Been recognize with the ITIB (Information Technology In Business)

"it's quite tough actually..no! it's not quite, but worse than that" haha.. it is my first opinion about mgt417. Actually it's not that bad. After you had through and look more further about this subject you might get realized that many topic which include in the syllabus were related with our surroundings. Yes it's true. When talk about our mobile phone, gadgets, network, services, business, or even my course that is human resource also relate with this subject. After you get to know about this subject you will find that this is such an interesting subject which i think it make us know more about the world's technology escalation. Wow.., doesn't it sound fun? Of course the answer is yes for those who are really interested with this topic isn't it?

Now i choose the topic of Ethical Issues which is contained in chapter 2 that is Information Systems: Ethics, Privacy, and Security.
Information technology has make many benefits for individuals, organizations, and entire societies when it is use for a proper uses. However, information technologies can also be miused, often with devastating consequences for example, individuals can have their identities stolen, organization can have customer information stolen, leading to  financial losses, erosion of customer confidence, and legal action and also our countries face the threat of cyberterrorism and cyberwarefare. These are the reasons why ethics, privacy, and security topics is being include in the syllabus. Ethics refers to the principle of right and wrong that individuals use to make choices to guide their behaviors. Fundamental tenets of ethics include of responsibility which means that you accept the consequence of your decisions and actions. Moreover, accountability which means a detrmination of who is responsible for actions that were taken. Lastly, liability is a legal concept meaning that individuals have the right to recover the damages done to them by other individuals, organizations or systems. A Frame for ethical issues consist of :
  1. Privacy issues, involve collecting, storing, and disseminating information about individuals. For examples, it's about what information about oneself should an individuals be required to reveal to others and what kind of surveillance can an employer ose on its employees.
  2. Accuracy issues, involve the authenticity, fidelity and accuracy of information that is collected and processed. It can be considered of, who is responsible for or how we can ensure that the process of the information is properly done and accurately being presented.
  3. property issues, involve the ownership and value of information which discuss on who owns the information or how should one handle software piracy.
  4. Accesibility issues, revolve around who shoould have access to information and whether they should have to pay for this access. It's consist of who is allowed to access the information and how much companies charge for permitting accessibility to information.
These are some of the information that i can share with.

What I Yearn To Do Is.....

Recently, we can assume that a lot of people love to get involve in facebooking including me.. haha..
For me, facebook is just like a magic power which suddenly change people's lifestyle when everyone in this era interested and till now they are active in this site. Doesn't it look curious for you? When young age of 6 or 7 also insist to have their own facebook account, when all mothers society get involve in this site as a replacing place for their meeting place, and when all the "mat rempit" less their race game absolutely for sitting at the front of their laptop and online.fuhh.. i really want to meet with Mark Zuckerberg. He supposed to be very proud for his "wisdom" and of course his generation and he won't never finish their eating right?haha.. what a malay proverb i used for. Facebook for me,can give us benefit as also the drawbacks. It's depands on how we use it. And my advice is always be careful on this site.

My real point is actually about what we love to do(hobby) or what have been we waiting for or dream to do. Some people like to waste their money on shopping purpose. According to what i'd read from The Star, there are 5 million do throng in 300 shopping complex in weekend. Naturally, Malaysian people are mostly rich perhaps.(??) besides shopping, there are other hobbies which can be considered as interesting thing such  as eat..haha.. basically, i love eat so much. i do eat many types of food and i yearn to eat various food from the other countries. i'm none of forbidden except for nuts and shrimps.

just see who i'm..nyum3..

Naturally it's not just about i make myself heavier, i admit that photographing is one of the attractive thing to join for. As like all of you can see, there are many of young people carry along their DSLR or digital camera of Canon or even Nikon together with them somehow. It looks trendy i think and seriously i wish i can become a professional photographer someday as my part time hobby. It's really amazing when you can take some catchy pictures with a great angle and pose of that place. When a good picture is being snap, then deeply you can know its real meaning and expression. Some good reseachers are able to express it.
Photographing seriously can make money. Starting from a small business then you will be able to expand it but it depands on how you make it different from others and of course your effort in study more about this career. For example, you can build a wedding photo business or even that kind of events. Many of photographer nowdays make a business on this part. You also can get involve in photoshot of modelling or advertising purpose for magazine, and so on. Once you get fun doing this job, it will make yourlife become more colourful and interesting just like the all photos that you had taken. I wish i can and i wish to own one Nikon DSLR.haha..

just an acting from me.. haha..

In this wide world surely there are a lot of hobbies which we can join for. Some can make money and some are just act for our favourite thing to do when we have some free time.  So what  do you think you wan to do?just asking yourself.

around of me

First of all, I really hope that there are no grammar judging on this site, haha..  let me tell some ‘story’  to let you know a little bit about me. Hmm.. why should you know right? Huhu. Nor Albaniah Binti Ahmad Zakaria, was a name I already knew that was stated in my birth certificate. Albaniah , Alba, and Ani were what they call me. When talk about my name, it’s basically can I relate with one of veteran actress, a famous brand of watch and electric stuff and one  of the country. Haha.. funny, just  what I think and  can say is, there are seldom of people out there was named by Nor Albaniah. Enough with my name. Next,  I think I’m the lucky one who own couple of parents which are very special for me. I really thank to God because confer me Ahmad Zakaria Bin Sumadi as my dad and Rahayu Binti Ishak as my mum. They such a precious and valuable assets which I have. They are my truly love, my life and my spirit.

always be my beloved parents ilBOY!

I got four sister under me and fortunately I don’t have any brother, haha.. What does it mean? Of course I’m the eldest. The eldest daughter! Life as an eldest is such a scary movie, haha.. ridiculous. Honestly it’s hard and uneasy for those who are not so versed in to be an eldest. I mean, who’s cannot become a responsible towards what should he or she does. Surely I have to be good in their eyes view otherwise I will be blame on whatever mistakes they had done by saying that  I also did what they had did. And what actually can I consider as a tough thing to be an eldest is  to be good in school performing or at least gain a ‘flying colours’ result. I don’t know whether I had done good enough or not, haha.. What can I conclude is I have to be good example for them in many aspects. They are Nor Ashikin , Nor Azureen , Nur Amelia and lastly Nur Atiqah. Love you guys so much btw!
WE love each other... =)

they are everything that i have...

When talk about my study, I studied at Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Pintas Puding as it my primary school. I got many funny memories here where one of it is my friend and I play using a letter with the guys from the next class, childish..haha. and from here I got 4 A’s 1 B for my UPSR. After that, I moved to my secondary school ,SMK Tun Ismail @ STI. I had learned a lot of things here. About friendships, about teamwork and everything. I knew It was a beginning for me to face with the real world. The sweetest thing happened when I got PMR result, unexpectedly I got 7 A’s and 1 B..again my English is the spoiler. Then , I keep play around and dush! Take and deserve it! I only got 4 A’s and blablabla..
My real world started when I first stay quite far away from my parents, my siblings, my house, my bed and of course my television, haha.. Melaka Matriculation College was the place where I further my study. I got the second intake for it. Thank to god otherwise I had to come to school again but different school which was SMK Munsyi Sulaiman. Matric life had teach me to be an independent person. I faced a lot of matters here and  I never forget the memories which for me were so nice and fun, especially for the members I got to knew and yes until now we were still together.
Uitm was the 6th choice where I’ve been standing now. Frankly said, I already got the instinct that I would get into it. For my first opinion about uitm was I just thought that uitm was some of ordinary university and it was just for the students who were not so qualified to continue their study in university. But seriously it is same just like the other best ranking university. I feel more proud for being here at University of  Technology Mara Kampus Bandaraya Melaka as a student. Uitm was the place where it helps a lot of Bumiputera people and not only that, it was the place for those who were from a family which earn less income. I was the one of the lucky student who were been chosen while many of  them  were not got any chance. Wherever  I’d been throw I realized that I have to started a new plan and new strategies. I cannot play much. Here I already become an adult although sometimes I would act like a child but not in all situation. Everything is going to be different because I’m standing at a different environment, different people and culture as it not same as my past life. I got many dream and wish to be achieve starts from here. All is about how I make myself better. Here everything will change whether I will become good or worse. It’s quite difficult at first. This feel might come across for all new students maybe. With the new method for study, new style for do assignment and new subjects which I have to go through. I really hope that I will got some extra here. Extra in kind of benefit, success in study, success to be someone, and success to make my family and my country proud by having me. It’s not all about I achieve to hold a spool of degree.

Our uitm just have only one building with 16 floor, however it is required with all important facilities. We have 2  residency college which are Tun Mamat for boy students and Tun Mutahir for girl students. I feel so excited since i know i gona stay at Tun Mutahir because it look nice for my opinion and till now i'm happy living here with all kind members. when talk about my class , i have been classified in BM2231B ,the second class of Human Resource course. I got many new friends here. They are all nice to me and i can get close enough easily with them. We are always help each other and hopefully we will always get along and success together. Uitm Kampus Bandaraya Melaka Di Hatiku!

THIS IS WHERE I GAIN MY KNOWLEDGE..HUHU

it's me.. (^ ^)

this is the first time for me to involve in this kind of page..
i'm not good at words.. this is actually for my assignment..huhu..
